“Sherry” Born Sharon Young hails from the Boston area with humble beginnings. She first began singing along side her family in church and at family gatherings. Eventually she would end up being crowned “Little Miss Roxbury” with accolades for her singing ability at age 7. It was at that point Sherry knew she would pursue a career in music. Boston had its first formal introduction to Sherry when she appeared on the cover of Boston’s own New Edition’s first album entitled “Candy Girl”. This eventually led to many performances around the Boston Area. Developing a love for theatre, at age 17 she auditioned and earned her Equity status landing a role in the production of “Little Shop of Horrors” at the Charles Playhouse in Boston’s Theatre District. She later performed at the Nickerson Theatres in Norwell and on the South Shore. These theatrical performances eventually lead Sherry to Los Angeles California where she performed in the US premier of Ragtime, which won several Tony Awards in 1998. While living in Los Angeles, Sherry had the privilege of performing with many renowned artists such as Al Jarreau. She was a featured vocalist performing a duet with him at The Hollywood Bowl California and The Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. Other vocal performances would include, Lalah Hathaway, Joe Sample (Crusaders), Marcus Miller, George Duke, Stevie Wonder, and Gloria Estefan. Luther Vandross, Gerald Albright, Everett Harp, David Sandborn, David Foster (producer) and many more. Also while in Los Angeles, Sherry landed a few roles appearing on Ted Danson’s “ Becker”, on NBC’s “Sunset Beach” and two short films: Next Afternoon starring Heavy D and “Like a Woman Should”. In 2000, she landed a most coveted lead role as “Nala” in the Lion King on Broadway in New York. Relocating brought with it many new opportunities, even landing a role on “All My Children”. Sherry could also be seen on many national television commercials including, Wendy’s, Swiffer, Lowes. K-Mart Martha Stewart Living, Verizon, Sensodyne, Cox Cable to name a few. She also appeared in various magazine print ads for Tylenol, Botox Cosmetics, Toys R Us, Babies R Us, and more. She also appeared as Co Host to Isaac Hayes for Universal Records (Soul 70’s Collection) Infomercial 2004. Sherry knows what a special blessing it has been to have been able to do so many wonderful things, meet so many wonderful people and make incredible music across the world.
